Understanding offers: what happens after you say yes

An accepted offer is an important milestone, but it is the start of the legal process rather than the end. Here is what usually happens next.

Once an offer is agreed, both sides instruct solicitors and the transaction begins to move through a series of practical steps.

Memorandum of sale

We circulate a memorandum of sale confirming the price, the parties, and their solicitors. This gives everyone a shared starting point.

Surveys and searches

Your lender will usually arrange a valuation, and you may choose a more detailed survey. Your solicitor will order local searches at the same time.

Exchange and completion

When enquiries are answered and finance is in place, contracts are exchanged and a completion date is fixed. We stay in touch with everyone until the keys are handed over.
